Thanksgiving Weekend at Jackie's Farm
A whole herd of Deltoids headed out to Jackie's farm for an awesome Thanksgiving lunch. Ginger, Lily, Tony, me, Parker, Jackie, Carel, Jennifer, Annika, Chris and Jane all came. We even Skyped Heidi in Churchill and chatted with her at the lunch table! As you can tell from Parker's attire, the weather was great 20 C for mid October - unfortunately the mosquitoes were terrible! Everyone had a fantastic time, running around outside, swinging in the hammock or jumping in the largest leaf pile I have ever seen!
Do you like our hats?
This picture was taken on Wednesday (November 10, 2010). Parker wanted all of us to wear a (new) Pull Up on our head! We were in the basement and instead of grabbing three Pull Ups at the same time, he ran up the stairs to his bedroom then back down the stairs 3 times!
Parker and his Manitoba Moose Obsession
Parker loves the Manitoba Moose mascot Mick E. Moose. We went to two Moose games in two weeks and we're going back for the third time tonight! We met Mick E. at the Moose Pancake Breakfast (October 16, 2010). The Moose players were actually dishing out the pancakes and sausages (Parker ate 5 sausages by himself) however Parker could care less. I told him that the players worked for Mick E. Moose - he was happy to hear that!
Here's Mick E. signing Parker's hockey card. The card is now stuck to Parker's room door.

Parker's Photo Shoot

A few weeks back I took Parker (with the help of my Mom) to Sears for some photos - geez, Parker was nearly 2 years old and I had never took him for photos yet!
I was shocked how well Parker behaved throughout the shoot! I was expecting him to run around like he normally does however he was captivated by the camera flashes and kepted on pointing to the camera and saying "light" in Parker lingo. I was flabbergasted by the pictures I got from the photo session - I especially adore the standing, smiling Parker - that is SO him and I am in love with the bird's-eye view - look at those pudgy arms - I just want to bite them!
As you can see, Parker love his school bus, fire truck and Percy the train - he wanted to bring his extended accordion transit bus but I said "no". Every night we have to pile his transportation vehicles into his crib - I am surprised he has any space to sleep! Very cute however :).

Parker's 2nd Birthday Party June 19, 2010

Saturday you had a fantastic time with all your friends and family celebrating at Grandma and Grandpa's house (the weather was great to boot!). You went swimming in your new pool (thanks to Kerri), you opened tonnes of awesome gifts (you especially loved the lady-bug folding chair [thanks Mark] and your new Parker sized fire truck [thanks Nana and Poppa]), you enjoyed the water fight (thanks to Nana and Poppa's water guns) and you loved eating the green icing off your transportation themed birthday cake!
I can't belive you are two! Today, which is your actual birthday, Mom and Aunty Tracy are taking you to the Red River Ex to check out the petting zoo and the Touch the Farm displays again (Mom, Dad, Nana, Poppa, Ryan and Nicole took you yesterday already - more pictures to come)!

Parker with his new cool shades!
A Shawn, Parker and Candace Update
Ah SUMMER! Okay, I know it is only May, but Winnipeg has been having fantastic warm, sunny weather - definitely a welcomed relief from last year's dismal summer.
Shawn has a month and a few weeks to go of his term with Hedges Middle School. Shawn really enjoys the kids and the teachers so we were excited to hear that his application to be extended until December 31, 2010 came through. What a relief. I am so happy for Shawn that he has found a job that he absolutely loves and the school appreciates all of his hard work!
Parker recently transitioned from the Hatchling room to the Chickadee room at daycare. I think the change took a larger toll on me than Parker. Parker started in the Hatchling back in July 2009 and he was welcomed by four outstanding daycare staff - Sheralyn, Anita, Lisa and Catherine. On Parker's last day with the Hatchlings (April 27), they presented him with a red graduation hat, a pillowcase with coloured hand prints of all the kids and daycare staff, and a scrapbook that recorded his daily events while in that room -too cute! After a few bumping days, Parker has adapted well to the new room. The biggest change is he is now with a group of very active 2-3 year-olds who are constantly playing outside. Needless to say, he is sleeping like a rock during nap times. Now if Shawn and I could get him to sleep for the night before 9 pm.
In addition to enjoying daycare, Parker is taking level I swimming; he's in the "duck" group at the St. James Civic Centre on Wednesday nights. Shawn takes Parker swimming and I take the pictures from the pool deck.
As for me, it has been crazy busy at work for the past three weeks. I recently became the lead of the Clean Beach program as well as the Aquatic Invasive Species Watercraft Inspection program. These programs entails me supervising four, second to third year university students. My biggest task lately is to try an stay half a step ahead of the students so that I am not constantly being bombarded by questions. I hope it will calm down in the next few weeks so that I can actually get some of my own work done. I am glad there has been lots of work on aquatic invasive species (AIS) - it seems, quite ironically that since I started with Water Quality and the AIS program, several new alien species have spread to Manitoba. Jokingly, I always say that I had nothing to do with all these new introductions, as if I was purposely attempting to solidify my job in the section. I love what I do and I hope to stay with Water Quality and the AIS team permanently!
