Parker with his new cool shades!
A Shawn, Parker and Candace Update
Ah SUMMER! Okay, I know it is only May, but Winnipeg has been having fantastic warm, sunny weather - definitely a welcomed relief from last year's dismal summer.
Shawn has a month and a few weeks to go of his term with Hedges Middle School. Shawn really enjoys the kids and the teachers so we were excited to hear that his application to be extended until December 31, 2010 came through. What a relief. I am so happy for Shawn that he has found a job that he absolutely loves and the school appreciates all of his hard work!
Parker recently transitioned from the Hatchling room to the Chickadee room at daycare. I think the change took a larger toll on me than Parker. Parker started in the Hatchling back in July 2009 and he was welcomed by four outstanding daycare staff - Sheralyn, Anita, Lisa and Catherine. On Parker's last day with the Hatchlings (April 27), they presented him with a red graduation hat, a pillowcase with coloured hand prints of all the kids and daycare staff, and a scrapbook that recorded his daily events while in that room -too cute! After a few bumping days, Parker has adapted well to the new room. The biggest change is he is now with a group of very active 2-3 year-olds who are constantly playing outside. Needless to say, he is sleeping like a rock during nap times. Now if Shawn and I could get him to sleep for the night before 9 pm.
In addition to enjoying daycare, Parker is taking level I swimming; he's in the "duck" group at the St. James Civic Centre on Wednesday nights. Shawn takes Parker swimming and I take the pictures from the pool deck.
As for me, it has been crazy busy at work for the past three weeks. I recently became the lead of the Clean Beach program as well as the Aquatic Invasive Species Watercraft Inspection program. These programs entails me supervising four, second to third year university students. My biggest task lately is to try an stay half a step ahead of the students so that I am not constantly being bombarded by questions. I hope it will calm down in the next few weeks so that I can actually get some of my own work done. I am glad there has been lots of work on aquatic invasive species (AIS) - it seems, quite ironically that since I started with Water Quality and the AIS program, several new alien species have spread to Manitoba. Jokingly, I always say that I had nothing to do with all these new introductions, as if I was purposely attempting to solidify my job in the section. I love what I do and I hope to stay with Water Quality and the AIS team permanently!

2009 Parker Year in Review
Everything is here - Parker's first haircut (March 19, 2009) now he's on haircut #9! His first birthday (June 21), our third wedding anniversary (Sept 2), our trip to Delta Marsh, Canada Day at the lake, Parker in the dryer, yes the dryer, Parker with NO teeth (first one arrived January 14, 2009) now he's got nearly an entire set, our trip to Victoria in April, Halloween, Parker with Santa, Nana, Poppa, Grandma, Grandpa, Great-Grandma etc...whoa what a memorable year!
Thanks Mari!
Mari, Jessie and Ruby help us capture some amazing photographs of the family to use for our 2009 holiday card! Mari also informed me about Picasa 3- holy cow it is absolutely amazing what you can do with this free program. We all had a blast in the snow in Morden. Marianne Fenn Photography - it does have a ring to it! Thanks Mari!
Whoa this is a long time coming...
Hi Everyone!
It is May 10 and I am finally getting around to updating the blog. Updating it has been on my list of things to do for months. So I am going to stop procrastinating and start...
I love this picture of Parker. It was P.J. day at daycare - the same day, Shawn and I went to see the movie Avatar. Surprisingly, December was the first day Winnipeg had snow that stayed! A complete miracle. Unfortunately the a blizzard was what brought the snow...one day before Christmas. It was great having a white Christmas, I was getting a little worried.
